The partnership will see INEX establish a new network POP (point of presence) in BT’s Citywest world class data centre, in turn extending its network and enabling more organisations to ‘peer’ and exchange IP traffic in an efficient, more cost effective way.
INEX PoP in BT data centre to offer enhanced connectivity to businesses
Global communications provider BT, and INEX, the Internet Neutral Exchange Association, today announced a partnership which will see INEX establish a new network POP (point of presence) in BT’s Citywest data centre.
The INEX expansion, bringing the number of PoPs in the Dublin metro area to seven, offers mutual benefits to both organisations. For INEX, it brings the exchange infrastructure closer to more existing and potential members who are located in the BT Datacentre enabling more organisations to ‘peer’ and exchange IP traffic in an efficient, cost-effective way. For BT customers it offers multiple benefits, making it easier and more affordable than before for them to connect to INEX and its 100 plus peering networks.
“Peering brings a number of benefits to those with IP networks, reducing latency, removing costs and ensuring best practice in terms of managing network traffic. Extending the INEX network to the BT Datacentre, with the launch of this PoP, brings peering closer to the businesses located there, said Eileen Gallagher, marketing and membership development at INEX. “For some existing members, this means they will now be able to connect and peer locally, removing additional complexity and cost of connecting at another INEX PoP. It also provides the option for networks who have IP traffic to peer but who are currently not members, to come on board and add to the rich peering community in Ireland.”
Peter Evans, director of wholesale and strategy, BT Ireland, said: “We are delighted to welcome INEX to the BT data centre and to offer enhanced services, within the facility, to our customers as a result. Our data centres are renowned for world-class connectivity, best in class security, energy efficiency and customer service. In partnering with INEX, we’re bringing even greater benefits to businesses, carriers and service providers, offering a simple route into INEX and the ability to peer with its members.”
Now live, the INEX PoP in BT’s data centre is good news, not just for customers, but for the industry in general. In today’s digital society, connectivity and peering IP traffic is key, and this partnership makes it easier than ever before for businesses to connect with INEX and peer with its members.
